My approach

I have always had an affinity with children and created a great connection with little ones by having fun. Now through having two children of my own, my passion and excitement for creating adventures and bringing out the joy in childhood had grown phenomenally. Capturing their life, free spirited nature and natural joy and curiosity for everything around them is the most incredible gift ever.

Family sessions are done on location, because outdoor shoots bring two huge advantages. Firstly, they are a familiar and fun environment for kids, and secondly we can incorporate the natural beauty around us in your photography. Family sessions generally last 60 minutes and I will do my very best to give you all the shots you wish to have.

Expect fun, laughter and perhaps me running up and down hills with your children. To get genuine smiles we generate lots of fun and one way to do that is be yourselves. My fun is getting to know you and your family and celebrating who you are (even if you feel a little uncomfortable in front of the camera). My family sessions are essentially just me joining you on a family walk. You won’t have to stand still too long and you definitely won’t be asked to say cheese. I spend a lot of time not taking photos, to keep a relaxed vibe, and this is just as important for adults as kids. I always approach every photoshoot I do with the same authenticity and fresh pair of eyes to create something unique for your family and to push myself as an artist. That being said, whilst we walk around I am constantly assessing composition and finding the the most flattering light to make you look your best. I am a true light geek and love natural light, so if you see me staring at a tree or looking into a puddle…trust me, I have something great in mind! And we do move around a lot, it’s very informal but I will give lots of guidance. Don’t worry, clients are often surprised how much enjoy their shoot!

Booking

Once you have booked in, I’ll arrange a telephone call or in person consultation to customise and plan your session. This is key to the shoot as I love to know what you are looking to create, which location will suit you best and discuss your children and their personalities.  I will send over my What to wear guide with suggested colour palette customised to the season & the location of the shoot.

Now is a good time to think about what you want to get out of your shoot. Should you be planning some frames for your living room, let me know and we can use this information during the shoot. Or if your main priority is a large variety of images for an album we can structure your shoot a bit differently. It’s not vital to decide this before the shoot, but always helpful to know if you do have items in mind.

After your shoot

After your photo shoot I will schedule your photo viewing where you can see the slideshow of your images. This takes place in the comfort of your own home at a time to suit you. I usually suggest an evening after the kids have gone to bed.

Order Sessions are a lot of fun as you see your images for the first time and can view samples and discuss the best options for displaying your favourites. For family sessions you will see at least 40 fully edited images for you to choose from.  Don’t worry – there is no hard sell. There is no obligation to purchase, but I know you are going to love your images.
